ebm-papst is a member of VDMA. The VDMA - Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau - German Engineering Federation – is one of the key association service providers in Europe and offers the largest engineering industry network in Europe. Mechanical engineering is a key technology and a powerful engine driving the economy. Accounting for sales of nearly € 200 billion (2011) and 947.000 employees (October 2011), mechanical engineering is one of the largest industrial sectors and employers in Germany.

For many years now, ebm-papst has been a driving force for energy-efficient products including in the market maturity of electronically reculated EC fans, aerodynamically enhanced fan blades, and a resource-conserving choice of materials. But alongside the development and production of energy-efficient fans and motors, ebm-papst also pays meticolous attention to integrated environmental protection and to the sustainable use of resources both in production and in its processes. The technological leader adopted this approach in 2009 under the company guideline "GreenTech". For that reason ebm-papst supports the engagement of the VDMA and its campaign Blue Competence.

Blue Competence defines credible and resilient sustainability criteria and standards that all those who join the initiative must meet. Blue Competence therefore ensures transparency, makes it easier for people to know what they are dealing with and provides certainty – for all those who are looking for sustainable solutions and products or companies that act in a sustainable way.
